The Roslyn No. 9 Mine opened in 1930 and was the last coal mine in the region to close in 1963. Typical of local slope mines in Roslyn area. #9 slope dropped 2200′ from the surface at 37-degree pitch to the coal vein below. Swiftwater Winery in Suncadia is the current resident of the mine site. The coal pile is still a predominant feature today. People are often seen hiking to the top.
